Azores Whale & Dolphin Watching + Volcano Hike

Group size: max 10
Level: anyone who doesn’t get seasick and can walk 10 km without crying
Included: airport pickup Ponta Delgada (15 min), two nights in a black-stone surfer house with ocean view, three zodiac whale trips (morning + afternoon + spare one if weather sucks), one full-day volcano hike, all breakfasts, picnic lunches, one insane seafood dinner with limpets grilled on volcanic rocks, wetsuit + snorkel for pools, rain jacket just in case
Not included: flights, extra dinners, wine (but it’s cheap and good)

Day 1
We grab you at the airport, quick coffee, straight to the marina. First zodiac at 9 am, engines roar, 10 minutes out and boom, sperm whales everywhere. They just chill on the surface logging, tails up when they dive, you can hear them click from the boat. Dolphins show up in hundreds, ride the bow like idiots, some jump clear over the zodiac. Back for lunch, second trip in the afternoon because the light is better and whales usually feed closer. Evening we eat fresh tuna steaks on the terrace, fall asleep to wave noise.
Day 2 – Volcano day
Early van to Sete Cidades, park at the rim, the view over the twin lakes (one blue one green) makes everyone swear out loud. Easy walk down into the crater, black sand paths, hydrangeas everywhere in summer. Stop at secret geothermal spots, cook eggs in the boiling mud for snack (tastes weirdly good). Then up to Lagoa do Fogo, swim in the lake if it’s warm enough, or just stare because the crater walls drop straight into water. Last stop: Caldeira Velha, natural hot waterfall in the jungle, water 38 °C, iron in the rocks turns everything orange, best shower ever. Back to the house around 6 pm, seafood dinner with the limpets thing, everyone dies happy.
Day 3
One last morning zodiac because you can never have enough whales. If we already saw everything, we go chase blue whales instead (they pass in May-June). Around noon we head to Furnas, quick dip in Terra Nostra park pool (38 °C, looks like chocolate milk), lunch is cozido (meat and veg cooked underground by the volcano for 6 hours). Drop you at the airport 4-5 pm, most flights are evening anyway. You leave smelling like sulphur and smiling like an idiot.
House vibes
Old lava-stone house 2 min from the ocean, hammocks, surfboards in the yard even if we don’t surf, huge kitchen where everyone cooks together, rooftop terrace for sunset beers, feels like summer camp for grown-ups.
Weather & ocean
Air 18-26 °C, water 17-23 °C, swells can be spicy but zodiacs handle it. Rain comes and goes in 10 minutes, bring a light jacket and good vibes.
That’s the deal. Three days, whales in your face, volcanoes in your feet, hot pools on your skin. Azores in a weekend, done right. Come get salty and happy :)
